A day after a student Rushikeswari, pursuing B. Arch first
year committed suicide in her hostel room, Acharya Nagarjuna University,
suspended two second year students, after their names figured in the FIR filed
by the Pedakakani police.
The two second year B. Arch students -- Jayacharan and
Srinivas -- were suspended by in-charge Vice Chancellor K.R.S Sambasiva Rao.
“We suspended the two students after their names figured in
the FIR and in the suicide note written by the student. The student described
in detail as to how she joined the course with big dreams, but was not able to
concentrate on her studies due to repeated harassment by the senior students.
We have also asked the anti-ragging committee to deal sternly with complaints
regarding ragging,” ANU Registrar P. Rajasekhar told The Hindu on Wednesday.
The Pedakakani police registered cases under section 306 IPC against three
students, including a girl, for abetting the suicide. The students have been
accused of stalking and harassing the student M. Rushikeswari for some months.
The student, a native of Vijayawada, lived in Warangal where her father Murali
Krishna was working as a marketing executive in a private firm.
She took admission into the four-year Bachelors of
Architecture (B.Arch) course at the University College of Architecture and
Planning in August 2014 and was allotted a room in Priyadarshini hostel. On
Tuesday afternoon, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan in her room. Despite
efforts by some students to resuscitate her, Rushikeswari died on the way to
the hospital.
The Pedakakani police, who launched an investigation into
the case, recovered a suicide note from her room. The note which had the words
‘My Last Note’, in written in bold, described in detail the harassment meted
out by her seniors and the dejection of not being able to concentrate on
studies. Earlier, the ANU authorities held a condolence meeting on the campus,
which was attended by a large number of students.
